Handcrafted Cat
Toys, A Healthier, Safer Alternative
Previously we use to purchase mostly commercially manufactured
cat toys for
the cats and kittens in our cattery. We found many commercially
available cat toys to be poorly constructed with low quality, unknown,
and possibly unsafe materials that didn't last very long. Also, many of
these cat toys contained materials and small parts that could be easily
chewed off and consumed, therefore posing a health risk for our cats and
kittens. With concern for the health and safety of our cats and kittens,
we starting thinking of other cat toy alternatives. Then we came up with the
idea of making our own cat toys for our cattery. Our cats and kittens are
delighted with these unique new cat toys and we are very pleased with their
durability. We do not use small parts in our cat toys (ie: buttons, small
external bells) due to the danger of accidental swallowing. We use
these cat toys exclusively in our own cattery and are pleased to be able to
offer them to other cat lovers.
Catnip Cat Toys
Most commercially available
cat toys are "fully loaded" with
catnip. Since catnip filled toys are not recommended for kittens under 4
months of age, these cat toys are unsuitable for them. Hence this led
to the creation of our
Kitten-Friendly Catnip-Free Cat Toys. To add the allure of Catnip
(for kittens older than 4 months) to our Kitten-Friendly Catnip Free
Cat Toys, see our recommendations below.
Our Catnip
Cat Toys
are not "fully loaded" with catnip which tends to get stale as they sit
on display shelves in the store. Once our catnip toys are made they are
immediately sealed in heavy duty plastic freezer bags and stored in cold
storage which seals in the freshness so the catnip stays fresh. Since we
use only 100% Organic Premium Quality Fresh Catnip, its potency
is very high and therefore we only need to use a small amount in the toy
and stuff the rest with fibrefill. Toys that are "fully loaded"
with catnip only, become extremely messy once they are minutely punctured
by a claw or a tooth, as the catnip starts to leak out of the cat toys and
scatter. Some cats experience digestive upsets from these leaky
"fully loaded" cat toys, ingesting too much catnip all at once.
Cats do not see colors the same as people
do. Contrast and
Pattern are more important so
many of our cat toys are made using colors that contrast
well with each other for
Enhanced Visual Stimulation. We look forward to introducing new

Catnip Recommendations for Kitten Friendly Catnip Free
CatToys
Catnip is not recommended for kittens under four months
of age as they do not need the extra stimulation.
To add the allure of Catnip for cats over four months
of age, just place the cat toys in a tight sealing
jar/bag with Premium Quality, Fresh Catnip and
let sit for two weeks. This process can be repeated from time to time to
help renew your kitty's interest in the toy. Catnip Pellets can also be
inserted into the crochet cat toys
through the weaving in the yarn or as an alternative you can use Catnip
Spray.
Care Instructions for Kitten Friendly Catnip Free
Cat Toys
Our
Catnip-Free, Kitten-Friendly cat toys are machine washable (cold, gentle
cycle) and dryable (low heat). Cat toys can also be layed flat to air
dry. The teaser wands can be spot cleaned with a lightly dampened cloth
or sponge. This keeps them clean, sanitary and long lasting.
Honeysuckle Cat Toys
Cats attracted to honeysuckle
cat toys will
express their delight in the usual feline fashion - licking, chewing,
rubbing and rolling around in ecstasy. Others just like to hug
the toys while napping.
Honeysuckle has also been reported to help calm cats in stressful
situations.
